Why You Should Not Combine Alcohol and Antibiotics

Other Reasons to Avoid Combining Alcohol and Antibiotics

If you are ill enough to require antibiotics, it is probably not a good idea to drink alcohol. Instead, it is best to focus on getting better. Get plenty of rest and fluids, and save the alcohol for another time.

For people who take antibiotics on a long-term basis (such as for acne), there may be no need to avoid alcohol while on antibiotics. However, you should talk with your healthcare provider about this. You and your healthcare provider understand your situation best. Based on what you want and expect, as well as your current health situation, the two of you can make a shared decision about your intake of alcohol while on an antibiotic. There may also be other medical reasons why you should not consume alcohol.
