Cefepime Antibiotic Information

By preventing bacteria from building cell walls, cefepime (Maxipime®) can help treat certain types of bacterial infections. This prescription antibiotic is approved for use in adults and children as young as two months old.

Although this medicine may help treat certain bacterial infections, not everyone can use this antibiotic. Information on cefepime should be discussed with your healthcare provider before starting treatment to minimize risks and to help ensure safe treatment. For example, you may not be able to use this medicine if you have poorly functioning kidneys; have a penicillin allergy; or are taking certain other medications, vitamins, or herbal supplements.

Although most people tolerate this medication well, side effects are possible and can include rashes, nausea, and diarrhea. In most cases, reactions to cefepime tend to be mild and easy to treat.
