Ceftazidime Drug Information
Ceftazidime (Fortaz®, Tazicef®) is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It is typically given in hospitals or other similar settings. It is given either intravenously (by IV) or intramuscularly (injected into a muscle). Some of the specific conditions this drug is approved to treat include:
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs, such as a bladder infection or kidney infection)
- Bone and joint infections
- Lower respiratory tract infections, such as pneumonia
- Skin and skin structure infections.
Because this medicine may not be suitable in all situations, tell your healthcare provider if you are taking any other medications or have any other medical conditions, such as kidney disease or any allergies.
