Ciprofloxacin Ophthalmic information

Ciprofloxacin ophthalmic (Ciloxan®) is available only by prescription and is approved for treating bacterial eye infections, including bacterial conjunctivitis ("pink eye") and corneal ulcers. As an antibiotic, ciprofloxacin ophthalmic works to kill bacterial infections by interfering with an enzyme the bacteria need to multiply.

This medicine is not appropriate for everyone; your healthcare provider needs complete information on your medical history and what medications you are taking before prescribing ciprofloxacin ophthalmic.

Although many people do not have any problems while taking ciprofloxacin ophthalmic, side effects can occur and may include eye redness, itching, and burning. If negative reactions do occur, they tend to be mild and easily treated.

Ciprofloxacin ophthalmic comes in the form of a liquid eye drop and an eye ointment. It is typically used many times a day for several days.
