Factive Antibiotic Information
Factive® (gemifloxacin mesylate) is commonly prescribed to treat certain types of bacterial infections. Specifically, this antibiotic is approved to treat:
- Acute worsening of chronic bronchitis
- Mild-to-moderate, community-acquired pneumonia.
This antibiotic is not appropriate for everyone; your healthcare provider needs complete information on your medical history and any medications you are taking before prescribing Factive.
Although many people do not have any problems while taking this drug, Factive can cause side effects, such as diarrhea, headaches, and a rash. If negative reactions do occur, they tend to be mild and easily treated.
Factive comes in one strength and is available in tablet form. It is typically taken once daily for either five or seven days.
