Should You Take Augmentin With Food?

Augmentin® (amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium) is a prescription medicine commonly used for treating bacterial infections. It comes in various forms and strengths, and is typically taken every 8 or 12 hours, depending on the particular product and dosage.

Some people wonder if you should you take Augmentin with food. In order to help prevent stomach upset, it is generally recommended that you take Augmentin with a meal or a snack.

The usual dose is one 500-mg tablet every 12 hours or one 250-mg tablet every 8 hours. For more severe infections, one 875-mg tablet every 12 hours or one 500-mg tablet every 8 hours may be recommended. It is very important that you finish your course of Augmentin, even if you start to feel better. Stopping the antibiotic too soon could lead to the development of medication-resistant bacteria.
