What Is 400 mg Avelox Used For?

Avelox® (moxifloxacin) is a prescription antibiotic that only comes in one strength -- 400 mg. The medication is approved for treating various types of infections, but what is 400 mg Avelox used for, specifically?

The antibiotic is used for treating a number of different infections, including:

Avelox is approved for treating these infections only when they are caused by certain types of bacteria. Some bacteria do not respond to the drug, and bacteria have different resistance patterns in different regions of the country. This means that some bacteria may be susceptible to Avelox in certain parts of the country but not in others.

Like all antibiotics, Avelox is completely ineffective for treating viral illnesses, such as the common cold or the flu.
