Bactrim® (sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim) is an antibiotic commonly prescribed to treat various types of bacterial infections. It is a combination drug that contains sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim, which are antibiotics that work by inhibiting the production of folic acid in bacteria during different stages of folic acid production. Common side effects that have been reported with Bactrim include loss of appetite, nausea, and rashes. The medication comes in tablet form and is available in a regular and double-strength formula.
