Bactrim and Diarrhea

Although most people tolerate Bactrim® (sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim) well, this medication can cause side effects. In most cases, however, the side effects of Bactrim tend to be minor and are generally easy to treat. However, there are potentially serious side effects that may require immediate medical attention.

For example, diarrhea occurring with Bactrim (if it is bloody or watery) is a potentially serious side effect -- you should contact your healthcare provider right away. It is important to note that bloody or watery diarrhea can occur long after you've stopped taking Bactrim, but you should still report this problem to your healthcare provider.
