Cefotan and Breastfeeding
If you are breastfeeding while using Cefotan (cefotetan), it is important to know that this drug does pass through breast milk. However, the amounts of the drug that are passed through breast milk are so low that it is generally considered safe to breastfeed during treatment. When using this antibiotic while nursing, watch for potential side effects in your child, such as thrush, nausea, or diarrhea.
Cefotan® (cefotetan) passes through breast milk in humans. As with all cephalosporin antibiotics, while Cefotan is usually considered compatible with breastfeeding, there are some precautions to consider. Therefore, if you are breastfeeding or plan to start, talk with your healthcare provider before using this drug.
Talking With Your Healthcare Provider
You should discuss breastfeeding and Cefotan use with your healthcare provider. Each woman's situation is different, and you and your healthcare provider understand your situation best. After considering what you want and expect, as well as your current health situation, the two of you can make a shared decision that is right for you.
