Cefuroxime 250 mg
If you have strep throat or another type of bacterial infection, your healthcare provider may recommend an oral medication called cefuroxime axetil (Ceftin®). Only available with a prescription, cefuroxime comes in the form of tablets or an oral suspension (liquid). The tablets and oral suspension are not equivalent on a mg-per-mg basis. For example, one cefuroxime 250 mg tablet is not equivalent to 250 mg of the oral suspension.
There are several factors your healthcare provider will consider before prescribing cefuroxime. Some of these factors include the type of infection you have, existing medical conditions you may have, the form of the medication used (tablet or liquid), and your age and weight.
It is important to take this medication exactly as your healthcare provider recommends. Do not stop this medication too soon, as it may cause antibiotic resistance.
