Cefuroxime axetil (
Ceftin®) is a prescription drug approved to treat certain bacterial infections in adults and children. The amount prescribed will depend on several factors, such as the form of the medication used (tablets or oral suspension), other medical conditions you may have, and age and weight. It is approved for use in children as young as three months old.
For children who are taking cefuroxime tablets, the dosage generally starts at 250 mg twice daily. Do not try to crush cefuroxime tablets for children who cannot swallow them whole, as they have a very unpleasant bitter taste that lingers. Dosing amounts for the oral suspension (liquid) will depend on the child's weight.
Do not stop taking your prescription too soon, even if you are feeling better, as this could lead to bacterial resistance to the medication.
