Side Effects of Cefuroxime Axetil

With cefuroxime axetil, the most commonly reported side effects are nausea, diarrhea, and vaginal infections. Some of the other possible reactions include dizziness, headaches, and gas. Although most problems are minor and are generally easy to treat, serious side effects may also occur. Contact your healthcare provider right away if you develop symptoms such as difficulty breathing, bloody diarrhea, or seizures.

As with any medicine, cefuroxime axetil (Ceftin®) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. Cefuroxime Axetil Side Effects to Report

There are a number of side effects with cefuroxime axetil that you should report to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
  • Watery or bloody diarrhea (which can occur even after you have finished the medication)
  • Seizures
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling (especially of the lips, mouth, or throat)
    • Wheezing or other breathing problems.
