Cephalexin 500 mg Capsules

Cephalexin (Keflex®, Biocef®) is available in the following forms and strengths:
 
  • Cephalexin 250 mg capsules
  • Cephalexin 500 mg capsules
  • Cephalexin suspension 125 mg/5mL -- each teaspoon (5 mL) containing 125 mg of cephalexin
  • Cephalexin suspension 250 mg/5 mL -- each teaspoon (5 mL) containing 250 mg of cephalexin.
     
The recommended dose of cephalexin for treating most types of bacterial infections is 250 mg to 1000 mg, taken four times a day for 7 to 14 days. For chronic or more serious infections, your healthcare provider may continue treatment for a longer period of time. For the prevention of bacterial endocarditis, the recommended cephalexin dose is 2000 mg, taken one hour before a surgical procedure is performed.
