Ciprofloxacin Antibiotic for Eye

Ciprofloxacin ophthalmic (Ciloxan®) is commonly prescribed to treat certain types of bacterial infections of the eye. Specifically, this antibiotic is approved for treating bacterial conjunctivitis (or "pink eye") and corneal ulcers. This eye medicine comes in the form of liquid eye drops and an eye ointment, and is typically used many times a day.

This antibiotic eye medicine is not appropriate for everyone; your healthcare provider needs complete information on your medical history and what medications you are taking before prescribing ciprofloxacin ophthalmic.

Although many people do not have any problems while using this drug, ciprofloxacin ophthalmic can cause side effects, such as eye redness, itching, and burning. If negative reactions do occur, they tend to be mild and easily treated.
