Ciprofloxacin Ophthalmic Solution

Available in the form of an eye ointment or a liquid eye drop solution, ciprofloxacin ophthalmic (Ciloxan®) is licensed for treating certain bacterial eye infections. Specifically, the liquid eye drop solution is approved to treat bacterial conjunctivitis (also called "pink eye") and corneal ulcers; the ointment is only approved for treating bacterial conjunctivitis.

This eye medication is typically used many times a day and works by interfering with a specific enzyme that bacteria need to grow and multiply.

Although you should feel better within a few days after starting ciprofloxacin ophthalmic, it is important to finish the full course of this antibiotic. Stopping treatment too early may cause your symptoms to return or lead to antibiotic resistance.
