Doxycycline is a prescription antibiotic approved for several uses, including acne, bacterial infections, gum disease, and
rosacea. If you have a bacterial infection, a healthcare provider may prescribe 100 mg of doxycycline per day for 7 to 14 days. However, your doxycycline dosage will depend on several factors, such as the condition being treated, the particular doxycycline product used, your age, other medical conditions you may have, and other medications you are taking.
Doxycycline is available in several forms, including tablets and capsules (sold under the brand names
Doryx®, Monodox
®, NutriDox
™,
Vibramycin®, and Vibra-Tabs
®), and as an injection (100 mg vials for injection).
It is important to take doxycycline with plenty of water (or other fluids) while in an upright position, in order to prevent the medication from irritating the throat. Make sure that you complete your entire prescription of doxycycline, even if you start feeling better. This will ensure that the infection is completely treated.
