Pregnancy and Doxycycline: General Recommendations

It is generally recommended that pregnant women should not take tetracycline antibiotics (including doxycycline). However, there may be some situations in which the benefits clearly outweigh the risk. For instance, pregnant women may be advised to take doxycycline if no safer antibiotics are expected to be effective for treating an infection. Also, the medication may be an acceptable choice for treating anthrax in pregnant women.
