Doxycycline Dangers

Although most people tolerate doxycycline well, it is not free of dangerous risks. Because this medication is not suitable for everyone, make sure you talk to your healthcare provider about the possible dangers that may apply to you.

For instance, make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medical conditions you may have and any other medications you are taking (including non-prescription medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements) before starting treatment. Dangers of this medication also include potential side effects. Some of the most common doxycycline side effects include:

  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Indigestion or heartburn
  • Vomiting
  • Skin reaction to sunlight (photosensitivity)
  • Loss of appetite.

Other doxycycline warnings apply to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as people who have certain allergies (including allergies to foods, dyes, or preservatives). Also, you may not be able to take doxycycline if you have certain medical conditions, such as frequent yeast infections, liver disease, or kidney disease.
