Doxycycline Pills

Doxycycline is a prescription medication used to treat several conditions in adults and children (age 8 years old and older). It is approved to treat conditions such as bacterial infections, acne, rosacea, and gum disease.

This antibiotic comes in several strengths and forms. The pills (including doxycycline tablets and capsules) are available in the following strengths:

There are also other forms of doxycycline products, including a syrup, an oral suspension, a gel, or injections.

Doxycycline is part of a class of drugs called tetracyclines. It decreases bacteria's ability to make protein, which bacteria need to live. This activity does not directly kill the bacteria, but it does inhibit their growth and multiplication, which gives the immune system a chance to fight the infection.

Even though most people tolerate the pills well, doxycycline is not suitable for everyone. Before using this medication, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider about any other medical conditions you have and any other medications you are taking (including vitamins, supplements, and non-prescription medications).
