Doxycycline is a prescription medication approved to treat several conditions, such as bacterial infections, acne,
rosacea, and gum disease. Although most people tolerate this medication well, doxycycline can cause some adverse reactions. Doxycycline, for example, can cause several side effects, such as:
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Indigestion or heartburn
- Vomiting
- Skin reaction to sunlight (photosensitivity)
- Loss of appetite.
While most side effects of doxycycline tend to be minor and are generally easy to treat, make sure to notify your healthcare provider right away if you develop serious reactions to doxycycline, such as bloody stools, blurred vision, or fever.
Also, negative doxycycline reactions may occur if you have certain medical conditions, such as liver disease, kidney disease, or frequent
yeast infections. To help avoid complications, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider about any other medical conditions you may have and any other medications you are taking before starting treatment with doxycycline.
