Factive Side Effects

Clinical studies have shown that some of the most commonly reported side effects of Factive include headaches, diarrhea, and nausea. In most cases, reactions are minor and easy to treat. However, contact your healthcare provider if you have more serious problems, such as fainting, hallucinations, or yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin.

An Introduction to Factive Side Effects

Just like any medicine, Factive® (gemifloxacin mesylate) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Factive. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)

Common Side Effects of Factive

Factive has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking Factive were documented and then compared to the side effects that occurred in a similar group of people taking a different antibiotic.

In these studies, the most commonly reported Factive side effects included:

  • Diarrhea -- in up to 5 percent of people
  • Headaches -- up to 4.2 percent
  • Nausea -- up to 3.7 percent
  • Rash -- up to 3.5 percent
  • Abdominal (stomach) pain -- up to 2.2 percent
  • Dizziness -- up to 1.7 percent
  • Vomiting -- up to 1.6 percent.
