Flagyl 250 mg Tablets
People who have certain bacterial infections may be prescribed Flagyl® (metronidazole). This product comes in the form of tablets, long-acting tablets, capsules, and injections. Various strengths of the medication are available, ranging from Flagyl 250 mg tablets to 750 mg (long-acting) tablets. Several different factors help determine the amount of Flagyl you are prescribed, including your weight and the infection being treated.
For example, when using the oral forms of Flagyl to treat anaerobic infections, the recommended dose is based on weight: 7.5 mg of Flagyl per kg (about 3.4 mg per pound) every 6 hours, up to a maximum of 4000 mg in any given 24-hour period. This antibiotic is usually taken for 7 to 10 days, although some infections may require extended treatment.
