Flagyl Uses

How Does Flagyl Work?

In order to work, Flagyl must enter the bacterial or parasite cell. The cells then cause a chemical reaction to occur with the medication. This reaction produces free radicals, molecules that can damage and destroy cells. This is presumably how Flagyl works to kill bacteria or parasites.

Flagyl Use in Children

Flagyl is approved to treat amebic infections in children. It is not approved for other uses in children.

Off-Label Flagyl Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Flagyl for something other than the conditions discussed in this article. Flagyl is frequently used off-label to treat many other types of infections, particularly if they are caused by bacteria that are susceptible to Flagyl. This medication is also sometimes used off-label to treat Crohn's disease.
