Flagyl® (metronidazole) is a medication licensed to treat a variety of different infections. It is effective against certain parasites as well as many different types of anaerobic bacteria. The antibiotic kills bacteria and parasites by entering the bacterial or parasite cell and causing a reaction that produces free radicals. Flagyl is available by prescription only and comes in tablet, capsule, and injection form.
