Keflex® (
cephalexin) is a prescription medicine licensed to treat various types of infections. Although most people respond well to the Keflex, problems can occur.
This drug has been studied extensively in clinical trials, with thousands of people worldwide having been evaluated. In these studies, people taking the antibiotic reported side effects such as
diarrhea,
headaches, nausea, and dizziness.
Although most side effects of Keflex are minor and either do not require medical attention or can be treated easily, some can indicate a serious problem. Keflex has been known to cause pseudomembranous colitis (severe diarrhea) in some people. You should notify your healthcare provider immediately if you experience severe or watery diarrhea, blood in your stools, stomach pain, or a low-grade fever.
Some people are more likely to develop problems with Keflex. Therefore, it is important that you talk to your healthcare provider before using this medication if you:
- Have kidney disease or kidney failure
- Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
- Are breastfeeding
- Will be having surgery
- Have any allergies.
