Tetracycline hydrochloride is a type of antibiotic. It is sold as generic Tetracycline tablets or capsules, or under a variety of brand names, including Sumycin®, Achromycin®, and Wesmycin®. Healthcare providers prescribe it for the treatment of common bacterial infections, such as pneumonia, chlamydia, and urinary tract infections. The medicine is also licensed for the treatment of acne and Helicobacter pylori infections.
Tetracycline comes as a capsule, tablet, or liquid suspension, and is generally taken two to four times daily. Nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting are some of the potential side effects.
