Augmentin® (amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium) is a prescription drug approved for the treatment of various bacterial infections. It comes in tablets, chewable tablets, and liquid form. The tablets are available in the following strengths:
  • Augmentin 250 mg tablets
  • Augmentin 500 mg tablets
  • Augmentin 875 mg tablets.
Your healthcare provider will recommend an appropriate dose for your situation based on several factors, including your age and weight, the type of infection and bacteria, and the particular Augmentin product.
The recommended dosage for most infections is either one Augmentin 250 mg tablet every 8 hours or one 500 mg tablet every 12 hours. For more severe infections, healthcare providers may recommend one 875 mg tablet every 12 hours or one 500 mg tablet every 8 hours.
