Antibiotics Home > Drug Interactions With Ciprofloxacin/Hydrocortisone

There are currently no known drug interactions with ciprofloxacin/hydrocortisone. Very little of the active ingredient is actually absorbed into the body; therefore, drug reactions are not expected. However, such problems cannot be ruled out and some could be discovered in the future. This is why it is important to tell healthcare providers about all medicines you take, including vitamins and nonprescription products.

Does Ciprofloxacin/Hydrocortisone Interact With Other Drugs?

Ciprofloxacin/hydrocortisone (Cipro® HC) is a combination prescription ear drop approved to treat an outer ear infection, known medically as otitis externa. Otitis externa is sometimes called "swimmer's ear." Ciprofloxacin/hydrocortisone does not have any known drug interactions.
Ciprofloxacin/hydrocortisone is a topical medication, applied directly into the ear. Very little of the medication is expected to be absorbed into the body. Because only very small amounts of the drug, if any, would be found in the blood after use, it will likely not interact with other drugs.
Although ciprofloxacin/hydrocortisone does not appear to interact with other drugs, you may not be able to use it at the same time as other ear drop medications. Talk to your healthcare provider about the best way to separate this medication from other ear drops.

Final Thoughts

At this time, it seems unlikely that ciprofloxacin/hydrocortisone would interact with any other medications. No drug interactions have been identified to date, and very little of the active ingredient is expected to be absorbed into the body. However, this does not necessarily mean there are no drug interactions. Ciprofloxacin/hydrocortisone has not been studied with every possible drug, and reactions may be discovered at a later date.
You should always tell your healthcare providers about all the of medications you take, including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements, even if you believe they will not interact with other medicines.
