Before prescribing doxycycline, your healthcare provider will consider several factors, such as the condition being treated, the particular doxycycline product used, your age, other medical conditions you may have, and other medications you are taking. Doxycycline comes in several different forms and strengths and is approved for treating a variety of conditions (such as bacterial infections, acne, rosacea, and gum disease).
Doxycycline 150 mg is available in the form of capsules and tablets and is sold under the brand names Doryx®, Monodox®, NutriDox, Vibramycin®, and Vibra-Tabs®. If your healthcare provider prescribes 150 mg doxycycline, it is usually taken once or twice a day (depending on the particular product and your healthcare provider's instructions).
It is important to take doxycycline with plenty of water (or other fluids) while in an upright position, in order to prevent the medication from irritating the throat. Make sure that you complete your entire prescription of doxycycline, even if you start feeling better. This will ensure that the infection is completely treated.
