Ofloxacin Otic and Generic
Ofloxacin otic solution (Floxin® Otic) is a prescription ear drop used to treat certain bacterial ear infections in children and adults. If you are prescribed this ear medication, you may wonder if there is a generic ofloxacin otic solution available.
Currently, there are only generic versions of this medication available, as the brand-name drug is no longer manufactured. Generic ofloxacin otic solution is available in one strength -- Ofloxacin Otic 0.3% solution. It comes in 5-mL and 10-mL multidose bottles.
Generic ofloxacin solution is made by several different companies, including:
- Apotex, Corp.
- Bausch & Lomb Pharmaceuticals
- Hi-Tech Pharmacal Co., Inc.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that all of the generic ofloxacin otic solution products currently available should be equivalent to brand-name Floxin Otic.
