Available by prescription only, ofloxacin otic solution can help treat certain bacterial infections of the middle or outer ear. This medication comes in the form of an ear drop and is used once or twice daily for one or two weeks. Although most people tolerate this medication well, side effects may still occur and can include ear pain, a bitter taste, and dizziness.
What Is Ofloxacin Otic Solution?Ofloxacin otic solution (Floxin® Otic) is a prescription ear drop used to treat the following bacterial ear infections:
- Otitis externa, which is an infection of the ear canal or outer ear, commonly called "swimmer's ear"
- Acute otitis media, commonly called a middle ear infection, in children with ear tubes
- Chronic otitis media in people with tympanic membrane (eardrum) holes.

Side Effects of Ofloxacin Otic SolutionJust like any medicine, ofloxacin otic solution may cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses it will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.
If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious reactions are less common.

- Bitter taste
- Itching in the ear
