During extensive clinical studies, Vantin was shown to cause diarrhea, vomiting, and headaches. Fortunately, most people tolerate this antibiotic fairly well, and side effects tend to be minor and easy to treat. However, because allergic reactions and other potentially serious problems can also occur, contact your healthcare provider if you develop anything that does not seem right.
Just like any medicine, Vantin® (cefpodoxime proxetil) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who receives the drug will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

Vantin has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the possible side effects were carefully documented.
In these studies, the most common Vantin side effects in adults included:
- Diarrhea -- in up to 7 percent of people
- Nausea -- up to 3.3 percent
- Infections of the vulva or vagina -- up to 1.3 percent
- Abdominal (stomach) pain -- up to 1.2 percent
- Vaginal yeast infections -- up to 1 percent
- Headache -- up to 1 percent.
