Metronidazole (Flagyl®, MetroCream®, MetroGel®, MetroGel-Vaginal®, MetroLotion®, Noritate®, Vandazole®) is approved for treating certain types of bacterial and parasitic infections. It is a prescription antibiotic that works to kill bacteria or parasites by entering their cells and causing a chemical reaction. Many different forms of metronidazole are available, including oral tablets and capsules, vaginal cream, and skin creams and lotions.
