Although doxycycline is the preferred drug in the tetracycline class of antibiotics for the treatment of anthrax, minocycline is a recognized alternative. The recommended dosage of minocycline in people who have been exposed to anthrax or who have a diagnosed active anthrax infection is 100 mg, taken twice a day for 60 days. Smaller children older than 8 years of age can be given up to 100 mg, taken twice a day for 60 days.
