An Introduction to Side Effects With Moxifloxacin Eye Drops
Just like any medicine,
moxifloxacin eye drops (
Moxeza™,
Vigamox®) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

Serious Moxifloxacin Eye Drops Side Effects
Moxifloxacin eye drops appear unlikely to cause serious side effects. However, as with any medication, be sure to report any possible signs of an allergic reaction to your healthcare provider, such as:
- An unexplained rash or hives
- Itching (more than the usual itching related to eye allergies)
- Unexplained swelling, especially of the mouth, lips, or throat
- Wheezing or difficulty breathing.
Common Side Effects
Moxifloxacin eye drops have been studied thoroughly in clinical trials, in which the potential side effects were carefully documented. In these studies, the most commonly reported side effects of moxifloxacin eye drops (occurring in 1 to 6 percent of people) included:
- Pink eye
- Slightly blurry vision
- Dry eyes
- Inflammation of the cornea of the eye (keratitis)
- Eye pain
- Itchy eyes
- Blood spots in the eye
- Watery eyes
- Fever
- Coughing
- Ear infection
- Sore throat
- Rash
- Runny nose.
It should be noted that some of these reactions are also symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis -- the condition moxifloxacin eye drops are approved to treat -- and it is possible that they are not really side effects of the eye drops at all.
