An Overview of Uses for Ofloxacin Ophthalmic Solution
Using Ofloxacin Ophthalmic Solution for Conjunctivitis
Conjunctivitis is a medical term used to describe inflammation or infection of the conjunctiva, which is the thin membrane that lines the inner eyelids and whites of the eyes. When the conjunctiva becomes inflamed, it looks pink or red. This is the reason why conjunctivitis is commonly referred to as "pink eye."
Although conjunctivitis can be quite uncomfortable, it rarely causes permanent eye damage or vision loss. It is highly contagious, however, so prompt medical treatment is important to prevent the spread from one eye to another, or from person to person.
Conjunctivitis can occur in one or both eyes. Common symptoms include:
- Pinkness or redness in the affected eye or eyes
- Eye(s) that are crusted over or "stuck shut" in the morning
- Burning, itchy eyes
- A gritty or sandy feeling in the eye(s)
- Eye discharge, which can be watery or thick and clear or colored.
Conjunctivitis is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection.
Ofloxacin ophthalmic solution will only treat bacterial conjunctivitis. It will not cure a viral infection.
