Rifadin Dosage

General Information on Using This Medication

Some considerations to keep in mind during treatment with Rifadin include the following:

  • Rifadin comes in capsule and injectable forms. The capsule is normally taken by mouth once or twice a day. The injection is normally given through a needle inserted into a vein (an intravenous, or IV, injection).

  • You should take Rifadin capsules on an empty stomach, with a full glass of water, one hour before or two hours after a meal.

  • The medication can be made into a liquid suspension for people who have difficulty swallowing the capsules, such as children. Ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist if you are interested in this option.

  • Rifadin liquid suspension must be shaken well before use.

  • For the medication to work properly, it must be used as prescribed. Missing doses or not completing the full course of treatment will increase the chance that your infection will not resolve and that the bacteria causing your infection will become resistant to Rifadin or other antibiotics.

  • If you are unsure about anything related to your Rifadin dosage, please talk with your healthcare provider, nurse, or pharmacist.
