Rocephin Risks

Although many people tolerate Rocephin® (ceftriaxone) well, this medication is not free of problems. Some of the most common risks with Rocephin include:
  • Pain, warmth, and/or minor swelling at the injection site
  • Unexplained rash
  • Diarrhea.
If any problems do occur, they tend to be minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. However, there are some potentially serious side effects that require immediate medical attention. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience serious problems such as watery diarrhea, blood in stools, or difficulty breathing.
Other Rocephin warnings and precautions apply to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as people who have certain allergies (including allergies to foods, dyes, or preservatives).
