Who Makes Suprax?

A type of cephalosporin antibiotic, Suprax® (cefixime) comes in the form of a tablet and an oral suspension (liquid). This prescription medicine is taken once or twice a day. It is prescribed to treat a number of different bacterial infections, such as strep throat, bladder infections, and ear infections, just to name a few.

Suprax is made by Lupin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Although all of the patents for the drug have expired, it is not currently available in generic form in the United States. It is not quite clear why this is the case, but perhaps the market for the medication is too small for it to be profitable for a manufacturer to make a generic version of Suprax at this time.
