Vibramycin Drug Interactions

Before using Vibramycin, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider about any possible drug interactions that may occur. Certain medications, such as barbiturates, some cholesterol medications, and antacids, may cause drug interactions with Vibramycin. Some of these interactions can reduce the effectiveness of the medications or lead to unwanted side effects.

An Overview of Vibramycin Drug Interactions

Vibramycin® (doxycycline) may potentially interact with several other medications. Some of the medicines that may lead to drug interactions with Vibramycin include (but are not limited to):
 
  • Aluminum, calcium, magnesium, or iron products (such as some antacids, iron supplements, calcium supplements, laxatives, and multivitamins)
  • Barbiturates, including (but not limited to):

 

    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)

 

 

 

 

    • Amoxicillin (Amoxil®, Moxatag®)
    • Amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium (Augmentin®, Augmentin ES-600®, Augmentin XR®)
    • Ampicillin
    • Ampicillin and sulbactam (Unasyn®)
    • Carbenicillin (Geocillin®)
    • Dicloxacillin
    • Nafcillin
    • Oxacillin
    • Penicillin (Bicillin® C-R, Bicillin® L-A, Pfizerpen®)
    • Piperacillin
    • Piperacillin and tazobactam (Zosyn®)
    • Ticarcillin and clavulanate potassium (Timentin®)

 

 

    • Acitretin (Soriatane®)
    • Bexarotene (Targretin®)
    • Isotretinoin (Accutane®, Amnesteem™, Claravis™, Sotret®)
    • Tretinoin (Atralin™, Avita®, Renova®, Retin-A®, Tretin-X™, Vesanoid®)
    • Tazarotene (Avage™, Tazorac®)
